History Of Java

Half of the people don't like history because it has too much of dates, but I can guarantee you that the History of Java will not test your patience, you will enjoy reading about it.

James Gosling, Mike Sheridan, and Patrick Naughton initiated the Java language project in June 1991. Java was originally being designed for electronic appliance like set-top boxes for the television. The language got its first name because of a tree. It was initially called Oak after an oak tree that stood outside Gosling's office. The language was further developed as a part of the Green Project.

After reading all this, you might be thinking that "How Did the Java name came into picture ?".
Some Explanations:

1."It's surprisingly difficult to find a good name for a programming language, as the team discovered after many hours of brainstorming. Finally, inspiration struck one day during a trip to the local coffee shop" Gosling recalls.

2. The word "Java" is an American slang word for "coffee". And while deciding the name for their product while drinking coffee , the inventors decided to put the name Java.

3. While an another explanation to our question was also present -> Others have speculated that the name Java came from several individuals involved in the project: James gosling, Arthur Van hoff, Andy bechtolsheim. So the name "JAVA"

After renaming Oak as "Java" , Sun Microsystems(which is now a subsidiary of Oracle Corporation) started testing Java 1.0 in 1995 which was officially released in 1996.
